Unique Gifts - Send Food Gifts for Something Delicious and Different

Friday, March 14th, 2008

By Nicole Martins Whether its the Christmas holiday season or the middle of summer, the necessity of having to shop for a birthday or anniversary present is inevitable. While its always a thrill to find just the right gift for a friend or associate, sometimes issues such as lack of time or the difficulty of trying to find a unique gift: how many ties can you buy your brother in law, make the buying experience stressful and a hassle. Unique gourmet gifts: salmon, lobster, crab and steak Theres really no need to buy yet another tie because what your brother in law really wants is a unique food gift such as an assorted steak box featuring specialty cuts of premium beef. This is a gift that he can take outdoors and grill on a nice summer evening or enjoy dining indoors. If you have a seafood lover to please, you can send them anything from smoked salmon gift baskets to a crab bake, lobster bake, or lobster gram. The last two are really fun because your lobster gifts come with live lobster, a pot, lobster bib and other items for a delightful lobster dinner. Crab bakes are generally the same idea only with live crab. Gifts for the dessert lover With so many choices in gourmet chocolates: in boxes, themed gifts baskets and more, you can send anything from romantic, fine chocolates to elegant, hand made chocolates to a colleague. Another popular idea for the confection lover is tower gifts: chocolate tower gifts and cookie tower gifts. These gifts are delivered in the mail and can make quite a presentation. Cookie bouquets are also fun gifts and great if you werent planning to spend a lot. Gifts for the food lover If you have a gourmand, and theyre hungry to sample different kinds of wine, cheeses, chocolates, coffees, teas and such look for a good food of the month club online. These clubs tend to include interesting choices and include information for your recipient to learn more about different kinds of cheeses, for example if its a cheese of the month club (see http://www.a1-food-gifts.com/unique-gifts.htm ). Dumpin’ The Skunk

Monday, March 10th, 2008

By Phil Scheen At one time or another, every fisherman goes through lean times. It doesn’t seem to matter what you put in the water…it comes back empty. You go to your favorite fishing holes, try methods that always work, but you don’t catch fish. The following is a set up I use that has worked wonders when it comes to catching trout, when nothing else will. It has put fish on my hooks, when nobody else in the vicinity was getting a nibble. First, use ultra light gear…fishing line no larger than 4lb, in green. Second, tie two small loops into your fishing line a foot or so apart, beginning about 18″ above the end of your line. Next, attach 8″ of the same fishing line to each loop. At the end of these leaders tie on a size 14 treble hook below, and a size 6 bait holder type above. At the end of the fishing line attach a 1/4 oz swivel sinker. On the treble hook put chartreuse, yellow, or hatchery Powerbait. On the size 6, slide a garlic marshmallow over the hook and up on to the fishing line, then slide a baby night crawler onto the hook. Finally move the marshmallow back down to cover the top of the hook. I always start with chartreuse Powerbait. It very rarely fails. If you do not catch fish within 15 minutes or so, bring your line in 4 or 5 feet, then wait. Repeat this until your line is back in to shore. Don’t get impatient…some of the best fish are caught within a few feet of the bank. If you use two poles, I’d recommend using chartreuse PB on one pole, and alternating the other two colors on the other. Good Luck! Bipolar Disorder Treatment

Friday, March 7th, 2008

By Kent Pinkerton Most people with bipolar disorder can be helped - but a psychiatrist or psychologist should first diagnose the disorder. Failure to diagnose and treat this disorder can prove fatal. Sometimes undiagnosed bipolar disorder patient end up in a psychiatric hospital or residential treatment centers and may attempt suicide. Children and teens with bipolar disorder do not usually show the same patterns of behavior as adults who have a similar condition. A mental health professional has to observe a teen’s behavior carefully before making a diagnosis. For treatment of this disorder a complete history of the person’s past and present experiences is very essential. Family members and friends should provide helpful insights into the person’s behavior, and the doctor may also want a teen to have a medical exam to rule out other conditions. Medication and psychotherapy are known to be effective treatments for bipolar disorder. Occasionally, doctors may also use electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Psychotherapy is often used simultaneously with medications. Detecting the patterns leading up to episodes of bipolar disorder and trying to identify triggers for these episodes is very important. Patterns may include use of medications or anything that happens physically or emotionally. Psychotherapy helps provide strategies for managing stress and coping with suspicions. Basic education about the nature of the disorder also helps to understand ones behavior. Doctors may use electroconvulsive therapy for treatment mainly for people who may have episodes of depression associated with suicidal tendencies or in people whose medication has proved to be ineffective. In this treatment electrodes are taped to the patients head and he is anesthetized. After a muscle relaxant is injected, a small amount of electrical current is passed through the brain for less than a second. This current produces a brain seizure, but because of the muscle relaxants the body remains calm. This therapy profoundly affects the brains metabolism and blood flow to various areas of the brain is rejuvenated. This therapy is often highly effective in the treatment of bipolar disorders. Doctors sometimes use antidepressant medications to treat the depression associated with bipolar disorders. Additionally, taking medications as prescribed, reporting any changes in functions and participating in therapy are the keys to living a successful life. In addition to treatment, making a few lifestyle changes like reducing stress, eating well and getting enough sleep and exercise can help a person cope with this condition. Bipolar Disorder provides detailed information on Bipolar Disorder, Symptom of Bipolar Disorder, Teen Bipolar Disorder, Bipolar Disorder Treatment and more. Fear of Pesticides Should Not Keep You From Eating Your Fruits and Vegetables

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

By Gabe Mirkin, M.D. If you avoid fruits and vegetables because of fear of pesticides, you’re harming yourself. People who eat the most produce, which is the highest source of insecticides, are the ones least likely to suffer cancers and heart attacks. One of the most-respected cancer researchers, Bruce Ames, professor at the University of California, Berkeley, believes that pesticides prevent cancer. Almost all the pesticides that we eat were placed in fruits and vegetables by nature, not by man. Fewer than one percent of the pesticides are made in chemical factories. Most people who complain about man-made pesticides do not understand that most insecticides are copies of those found naturally in plants. When man-made pesticides are given for a very long time to animals, 50 percent develop cancer. When similar doses of natural plant-made pesticides are given to animals, 50 percent also develop cancer. Even with the help of pesticides to preserve our crops, only nine percent of Americans eat the recommended minimum of five servings of fruits and vegetables per day. According to Dr. Bruce Ames, this lack of phytochemicals in produce accounts for at least a third of the cancers in industrialized nations. Life have been on earth for 3.5 billion years, and a huge percentage of the plants that have been on earth have become extinct because insects, bacteria, viruses, fungi, man and animals have destroyed them. The minuscule number of plants that have survived contain insecticides to protect them from being destroyed. Insects multiply so fast and have such voracious appetites that they would destroy every food crop known to man if it were not for the natural insecticides produced by plants and the manufactured insecticides produced by man. Since people are concerned about the use of insecticides manufactured by man, researchers have developed almost exact copies of insecticides made by plants. For example, chrysanthemums produce pyrethrins that protect them from many insects. Manufacturers make copies of plant pyrethrins that have never been shown to be more toxic than those from the plant. Since some concerned groups oppose man-made copies of plant insecticides, scientists have gone one step further. They have taught plants how to make their own new insecticides. For example, a bacterium called bacillus thuringiensis makes an insecticide that kills the Colorado potato beetle that devastates potato crops. Scientists have genetically engineered potatoes to make exactly the same chemical that is made by the bacteria. So Colorado potato beetles die when they eat these potatoes. Man-made insecticides that are copies of plant-made insecticides have not been shown to be more toxic than plant-made insecticides, and plants that are genetically engineered to make large amounts of insecticides have not been shown to be either safer or more toxic than regular plants. How To Win A Girl’s Heart - Guaranteed Ways To Win A Girl Over

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

By Derek Rake All of you guys out there might be wondering exactly what you need to do to get a date with that hot girl you met at the bar yesterday or that woman you talked to in your class last week. This may seem like a difficult task, but it doesn’t have to be. If you are one of the many men who want to learn how to win a girl’s heart, you should read our tips for ways to win a girl over. Most importantly, if you want to learn how to win a girls’ heart, you need to demonstrate that you are a "prize" worth fighting for. You may be thinking to yourself "What are you talking about? Everyone knows that women are always considered the catch, and men are supposed to chase them." Well, smart men know the exact opposite is true. You need to turn the woman’s mindset around and have her thinking that she needs to pursue you. You have to convince her that you are one that she definitely doesn’t want to let get away, just like men have traditionally done for years with women. For guys learning how to win a girl’s heart, you can demonstrate higher value to a woman in many ways. One of the first methods is to show her that you are not desperate and that you don’t "need" to date her or win her approval. She will most likely be caught off guard at first because this is not a typical male response. Most women are used to guys doing everything in their power to win over a woman. By taking a figurative step back, you will be showing her that you are not needy. A surefire way of winning a woman over is to build a rapport with her. You need to start by making her feel comfortable with you. Choose topics of interest to her and make sure you have her full attention. Once a comfort zone has been established, you can work on building attraction. Be playful and tease her a little, but don’t ever appear that you are actually trying to win her over. Smart men realize that by drawing her closer to you and then figuratively pulling away will just increase the attraction between you. If you don’t believe me, just think of how a magnet works; attraction is created when unlike poles meet, whereas like poles just end up being repelled. If you want to learn how to win a girl’s heart, you need to follow some simple steps. Convince the woman that you are the "prize" by demonstrating your higher value; don’t appear too needy. You also need to establish a comfort zone before you start to build the attraction between the two of you. If you do these things consistently, her heart will belong to you before you know it. College Roommates Part II - Life After Dorms

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By David Lithman College Roommates Part II - Life After Dorms Most incoming college freshmen live in the dorms their first year. In my opinion this is a wise decision and an excellent opportunity to experience new things. However, not all freshmen live in the dorms. Some move straight into apartments, condos, or houses. In College Roommates Part II, I will discuss my experiences living with roommates in an apartment. Not all are good, but overall apartment life in 100 times better than being in a dorm. I moved into my first apartment in August of my sophomore year. I decided to find a place with a friend (well call him Mike) I have known for years. We asked several of our other high school friends to live with us, but no one was available. We drastically searched for two more roommates. We wanted to live in a four bedroom apartment because of the social atmosphere, but mostly because it is cheaper than living in a two bedroom. We eventually found two guys to live with us. They happened to live in the dorms with Mike, so they were friends of his but total strangers to me. I was not worried one bit. After living with Kraut in the dorms, nothing could be worse, after all, in the apartment I would have my own room and own bathroom. Apartments are so much nicer than dorms. You get your privacy back (well most of it), you get more space, and you get a better sense of independence. I had my own desk and my own computer. I had my own mini fridge in my bedroom and my own dresser. The only things we had to share were things in the living room. We chose to stay in one of the more social apartment complexes known for parties and fun times. We had an already furnished apartment that included all utilities and cable T.V. with the rent. We had our own washer and dryer too. Living in my first apartment was one of the best years of my life. My new roommates turned out to be awesome people. We have all remained friends to this day. Having four guys in one apartment comes with its positives and its negatives. Some of the positives are always having people to play sports with (I cant count the number of times we played 2v2 basketball), always having someone to play video games with, having friends to go out with, and just being able to have fun with friends. But when you live with three other guys things can get messy. Trash piles up everyday, no one cleans the kitchen, and someone always wants to party the night you have an exam to study for. Overall my first (and only) apartment experience was a good one. I made two solid friends there, although I didnt meet many other people in the apartment complex. We had good times, especially when we bought a ping pong table for the living room, and great memories. I would highly recommend everyone to live in an apartment at least one year during their college career that is unless you have a sweet condo or house. My junior and senior year of college, my friend Mike and I decided to move into a condo with two of our friends from back home. Our roommates from the apartment were cool with it, and they both went to live with two other their friends from back home. We chose to move into the condo because A. it was cheaper and B. we needed a new scene. By moving in with a friend whose parents owned the condo, we did not have to pay a security deposit or any hidden fees. Our rent was straight forward and included all utilities. We had everything from the apartment and more. The only downfall from living in the condo was that it was old. Things got moldy and things fell a part. Not all of it was normal wear and tear. During my stay at the condo, I survived 4 hurricanes, one of which was a direct hit. Florida got pounded in August of my senior year. Those hurricanes ripped the condo complex up, and the condo association did nothing to fix it. Trees were everywhere, roofing and siding came off, and mold and leakage grew in our rooms. Luckily we were able to control it. We also had a dog while living in the condo. One of my roommates brought her home because she was abandoned. She was a sweet dog in the end, but a pain while a puppy. She chewed everything and peed on everything she didnt chew. If I had to pick living in an apartment or living in a condo, I would choose the condo probably 8/10 times. They both have their pros and they both have their cons. I met some of my best friends living in both the apartment and condo. I did meet my girlfriend through one of my condo roommates and Mike met his girlfriend because she lived in the condo next to us. You cant go wrong either way. Anything is better than living in a dorm. I never lived in a house so I can not touch on that subject as much. In the next section I will discuss the pros and cons of apartments and condos. Apartment Pros and Cons: Pro- Social environment Pro- Maintenance is prompt (usually) Pro- Fixed bills (utilities, TV, and phone included) Pro- Already furnished Pro- More space and privacy Con- No where to study Con- Have to drive/take a bus to school Con- Roommates steal your food Con- No one cleans up Con- Can be expensive Condo/house Pros and Cons: Pro- Have your won furniture Pro- Utilities included in rent Pro- Can have pets Pro- Good parking Pro- Social aspects Pro- Usually cheaper Con- You have to provide maintenance Con- No where to study Con- It can get loud living with 3 other people Con- Roommates steal your food If you have any questions concerning college living (whether it be dorms or apartments), please feel free to email me at collegesos@yahoo.com http://collegesos.blogspot.com/ I am a recent graduate of the University of Florida. I currently work full-time, but it is my desire to help incoming and current college students with all aspects in their lives. My goal is to advise students not to make the mistakes I did and to help give them a better college experience. Acetaminophen May Effect Liver Blood Tests

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ron_Swerdfiger] Ron Swerdfiger Acetaminophen often refereed to as Tylenol, when taken at the highest recommended dose may trigger an abnormal result on an otherwise healthy blood test, according to new research. The finding means, a perfectly healthy person may think they are sick when hearing the results of a common liver blood test. In the study, 106 participants took four grams of Tylenol, equivalent to eight extra-strength Tylenol tablets, each day for two weeks. Some took Tylenol alone, and some took it with an opioid painkiller. Placebo pills were given to 39 others. 40 recent of the people taking acetaminophen had abnormal blood test results which could signal liver damage. Dr. Paul Watkins of the University of North Carolina says, “This was a very surprising finding.” When treating this type of liver problem, doctors are trained to examine what drugs the patient is taking and recommended stopping drugs that may effect the liver. Ironically - acetaminophen is not on that list of suspect drugs - but a number of common prescription drugs are Dr Watkins says the study calls attention to the possibility that some blood tests are ineffective. Researchers recommend not to exceed four grams a day or the equivalent to eight extra-strength Tylenol tablets. And heavy drinkers should take no more than two grams a day The study appears in the current Journal of the American Medical Association For an [http://news.worldfitness.ca] health and [http://www.worldfitness.ca] Fitness news, visit [http://www.worldfitness.ca] http://www.worldfitness.ca Article Source: [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ron_Swerdfiger ] http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Ron_Swerdfiger [http://ezinearticles.com/?Acetaminophen-May-Effect-Liver-Blood-Tests&id=237073 ] http://EzineArticles.com/?Acetaminophen-May-Effect-Liver-Blood-Tests&id=237073 online order purchase ambien order ambien online ambien alcohol numero cip zolpidem

The Top 6 Maintenance FAQs, and Answers to Them

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

By Henry Jones 1. Q - How much time should I expect to spend each week maintaining the pond? A During the pond season (the summer) you should expect to spend five to ten minutes each week between emptying debris from the skimmer, and topping off the pond (accommodating for natural evaporation). This of course presumes that youve covered the bases as far as creating a naturally balanced ecosystem. 2. Q How about maintenance time in the fall? Does it increase? A Definitely. When the leaves a blowing hither and yon, many of them will naturally find their way into your pond. That means you will be emptying the skimmer basket at least once a day (maybe twice) instead of once a week, so your maintenance time will increase in the fall. 3. Q How about in the spring? Does that change things? A the one maintenance event of the year for most pond lovers, is spring clean out. And whether youre a died in the wool do it yourselfer, or you hire it done, a properly done spring cleanout that includes draining the pond, catching and housing the fish safely, power washing the pond, filling it back up, and allowing the fish to re-acclimatize, it generally takes the better part of four hours. The good news is that it happens only once a year. 4. Q While were at it, what about maintenance in the winter? A Unless youre in a climate thats warm all year around, youll probably be shutting your pond down in the winter. That requires you to put a surface agitating bubbler in the pond in order to keep a hole in the ice, allowing for gasses to be exchanged. You may even want to use a complimentary pond heater in case of a real cold winter. One way or the other, most of your winter maintenance time is spent looking out the window and assuring yourself that the pond hasnt frozen over, and your fish are still hibernating. 5. Q Is feeding the fish considered part of pond maintenance? A - No, its not. Since most people get a kick out of feeding the fish, we always consider it a recreation. Fish feeding should take no more than a couple minutes per day, unless you choose to spend more. 6. Q - Since keeping a pond in balance allows Mother Nature to do most of the real maintenance work, whats required to have a balanced pond? A You must have an appropriate amount of fish (1 inch of fish for each square foot of pond surface), aquatic plants (they should cover about 40% of the ponds surface), and plenty of aerobic bacteria to break down debris and transform it into usable plant nutrition. Follow that recipe and your maintenance headaches will be minimized, and your relaxation time will be increased.
